Wilma Dykeman Legacy

Eleven high school teachers gathered in Hot Springs, North Carolina, during the last week of July 2021 to participate in a unique experiment in professional development: the pilot session of our Hot Springs Teacher Institute.  Two of the teachers - Erin Long and Julie Young from the Madison Early College High School - trained the other nine teachers in delivering an English-based unit oriented toward pride of place.

Judging from teacher evaluations, this pilot session was a tremendous success.  Teachers left the week with confidence that they could adapt the Madison County-based English unit to their own places and students.  They also expressed a desire for a repository of resources from which they could draw to enhance their teaching.
