Debate over Race Relations
Resolved: Asheville has disenfranchised its African-American population
On November 13, 2015 the Wilma Dykeman Legacy and the Asheville High / SILSA Speech and Debate Team sponsored a formal debate between community leaders. This debate filled the Asheville High School auditorium. Dwight Mullen and Darin Waters, a pair of University of North Carolina at Asheville professors, argued for the resolution. Dr. Carl Mumpower, practicing psychologist, and Isaac Herrin, Chair of the Western Carolina University College Republicans, argued against the resolution. Speech and Debate team members volunteered to be judges for the debate.
